He is chair of Consolidated Press Holdings (CPH), which he privatized in 1983, a conglomerate founded by his father which produces such magazines as the Australian Women's Weekly and the Bulletin. CPH also has interests in radio and television stations. In 1977 he created World Series Cricket, which introduced one-day matches and coloured kit to the game. Kerry Packer's father was the media magnate Frank Packer (1906-1974) who began as a cadet reporter on one of his father's papers and grew to be the most powerful media owners in Australia. He had interests in horse racing and yachting and in 1962 and 1970 unsuccessfully contested the America's Cup.
